What Does God Want to Change in You?

So often we ask “What does God want me to do” and “What do I most want to do” when it comes to our decisions about our vocation.
Rather, I’d like to pose the question that I think God asks of us more often: “What does God want to change in you?” I think this is especially true for people whose desires and vocations don’t come to fruition quite the way they wanted them to.
Recently, I came to the conclusion that God may not want me to have biological children. Why? I don’t know, but I feel increasingly and mysteriously drawn to adoption. And, He hasn’t let biological children happen for whatever reason.
I think it has more to do with the question I’m writing about today than anything else. God wants to change something unbeknownst to me. Something that bio children may not change in me.
God’s plans are so much bigger than our plans. They prepare us for an eternity with Him, and so it should not surprise us if He’s orchestrating a plan that changes us for the better, but may not be exactly what we wanted.
